Ducks on the lake

Sometimes I look out at the lake and just have to laugh. There is an odd assortment of ducks and Canadian geese . Depending on the time of day they all have a voice and seem to be enjoying paddling around the lake looking for adventures. Saw a mother mallard with five babies and worry that it's a little late to be having babies now.  Since they stay here year round I guess it is not so important to have the wing strength to fly south.
Now that fall is arriving soon we are seeing more of the Canadas dropping in for a short visit, thank goodness don't need any more that the ones that stay here year round. The song birds are busy in the        garden looking for bugs and picking the seeds off the flower heads that I left for them. The favorite is the black eyed susans and there are plenty of them to go around. The gold finches are enjoying the new net bag of thistle seeds we hung out for them. Dave put out some fresh hummingbird food and the hummers are coming by to store up  energy for the Sept. flight to warmer climates in the tropics.
